DRAFTER The number of jobs is expected to hold steady at about 310,000 through 2006. Opportunities will be brightest for those with two years training in a technically strong drafting program and some CAD experience. A drafter creates a drawing that indicates the exact size and shape of an object. Drafters' drawings show the technical details of products and structures. Most employers prefer to hire people who have completed post-high school training in drafting. Vocational-technical schools, junior and community colleges and technical institutes offer this specialized training. The average annual salary for drafters is about $31,250. The most experienced drafters earn about $41,000 on the average. |
